17th April 2018

Dear Parents / Carers,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back to school for the final term of this year.  I hope you have all had a relaxing break and are ready for a busy summer term. Our class topic for this half term is Water Worlds.  Over the coming weeks we will be learning about rivers and the water cycle. The children will research how rivers are formed and how human geography has been influenced by the location of rivers.

Our English work will include grammar and comprehension practice, while writing adventure stories about a river journey. There will also be time for some poetry. In maths, we will continue to develop our understanding of calculation methods and place value, while also learning about angles, fractions, percentages and units of measure. Home Learning will usually be set on Thursdays, for return to me by the following Monday. This gives your child an evening to have a quick look and any questions regarding the work can be answered on the Friday. I will continue with setting the weekly spellings on a Tuesday, for testing on the following Monday. We will also have an additional spelling list for the Key Stage 2 Spelling Bee. Any support you give to your children with this work will have a positive impact on any work they do in class.

PE will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for this half term. Indoor and outdoor PE kits should be kept in school throughout the week in case we get any additional sporting opportunities. We are no longer in the winter months but weather is still changeable, so please ensure your child has tracksuit bottoms and a jumper or fleece.  A carrier bag for wet clothes and spare socks would be useful, as weather will not stop us from enjoying the outdoor environment.  If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to speak to me, either at the start or at the end of the school day, except for Tuesdays as that is when we have our staff meetings. I am truly look forward to the challenges that this exciting new year will bring.
