Welcome to Year Six's Web Page!                                  Year 6 Blog   https://weareyearsix.wordpress.com/

21st April 2017

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to the Summer term! I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and are ready for the last part of the year!

Obviously the next few weeks will involve some preparation for SATs.  These will begin on Monday 8th May and will continue for the whole of that week - there will be tests each day, covering English and Maths.  It is vital that your child is in full attendance throughout test week.  There will also be some Science assessments – probably during the same week.  We aim to make this time as stress-free as possible – please encourage your child to be organised (so they don’t feel rushed in the mornings) and remind them to bring a water bottle and snack each day.  May I take this opportunity to remind you that it is vitally important that your child is well-rested at this time – these few weeks are possibly not the best time for sleepovers or late-night computer games!  Please encourage your child to engage fully with Home Learning tasks and to use BBC ReviseWise and KS2 study books, so that he/she can feel well-prepared and confident when SATs week arrives.  More information about these assessments will be sent home in the next few weeks.

Our theme for the first half of this term is ‘Saving the World’.  We will be finding out about natural resources, saving energy and recycling – this topic will include a visit to Stockport Recycling Centre.   Our second topic is ‘World of Work’, which will be built around our participation in the Oldham Schools Year 6 Business Challenge.  Towards the end of the term, we will gradually build up our preparation for the transition to secondary school.  During the term, the class will benefit from teaching input from Mr Garside, who has already worked with the class at various times during the year.

This half-term we will have P.E. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.  Outdoor kit will be needed on Tuesdays, indoor kit on Mondays and Fridays.

I hope we can look forward to a productive and enjoyable Summer term – a fitting finale for your child’s time at Delph!  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak to me before or after school, or arrange to speak with Mrs Leigh.

Best wishes,

R.F. Massey

Help!

In Year 6 we are building our learning skills by buiding persistence, resilience and the ability to help ourselves when we encounter difficulties.  On the Help Wall, we can find all sorts of resources that can support us with Maths and English learning challenges.
